Birch Bark Canoes
Our canoes are authentic and period correct. The size and number varies depending on the expedition. They are made of birch bark, cedar, oak, spruce root and pitch. These canoes have all the beauty and challenges that come with a vessel made of natural materials. They serve as our transportation, our link to civilization, and our homes.

Boards & Poles
To distribute weight in the canoe and  store provisions  night. Poles are used as a cooking tripod.

Gimlet
A 1/4 inch drill bit - to make holes in wood - hand turned.

Agret Kit
Birch bark, wattape and pitch - to repair the canoe.

Sheep Fleece
To absorb water from the bottom of the canoe.

Canoe Awl - to repair canoes and other gear - three sided shank - hand forged - wooden handle.

Canoe Ropes
Each canoe has two ropes, stem & stern - for tying up and lining.

Spoke Save
This is used to shave thin layers of wood off whatever needs carving. An ancient but effective tool.

Divider
To measure distance and travel speed on the charts.

Compass
To navigate on big water and in the bush.

Watch
To structure the day and keep us on track.

Small Forest Axe
This axe is hand made in Sweden. An excellent but dangerous tool. It has a 1.5 pound head and a 19" hickory handle.

Kettles
To cook what we eat - made of tin.

Cup
To measure out rations - doubles as a ladle.

Rum Jug
To carry spirits. This one is glass - cane covered for protection.

Water Bags
Made of linen - material swells when wet to keep water in.

Camp Tarp
To shelter gear or people - 10'X20'.

Tongs
To handle pots and fry pans around the fire.  The camp kit will include a couple.

Punch
A 1/4 inch punch - makes neat clean holes in leather goods.

Saw
For safety and to minimize environmental impact.

Hemp Twine
To tie everything - strong, rot resistant, handy.

Bear Grease
To sooth sunburns, chapped hands and whatever other body parts need a little care.

Steel Pans
To fry fish or wild game - doubles as a plate or bowl if needed.
Kitchen Utensils
We carry a couple of spatulas, a large spoon for serving and that's it.
Wannigan
We have two of these boxes. One for the rum, syrup and food stuffs. The other to carry miscellaneous items.

First Aid Kit
Tape, Benadryl, Aleve, Imodium, gauze, non-adherent dressing, pins, Tylenol, iodine, Steri-Strips, rehydration salts, band-aids and Robaxacet - packed in a poke.

Leather Awl
Mostly to repair moccasins but comes in useful when sewing anything really.
